Synology RT1900ac : Unbox and Overview

Been looking for new router for some time, due to stock Unifi router needed to be restart once a while (dull connection) and perform very bad while there are 10 – 13 devices connected. Nowadays, one peoples easily got up to 3 devices: a smartphone, tablet and a laptop, with a NAS Synology DS115j and MiBox connected, any device that doing update or streaming video will caused all others experiencing slow connection.

After done some study and go through specs and features of Routers that fit in my budget around RM 400 – RM 700. Decided to give Synology Router a try, since the DS115j serve me very well and user interface still looks very fresh after all these years.

Bought it from C-Zone at Digital Mall Petaling Jaya, cost of RM 599 with no discount. Same old cardboard design with no fancy glossy packaging, comes with LAN cable, power adapter, 3 antennas and a quick startup guide. The looks of actual device is simple, dark as in stealth mode.

An optional stand for RT1900ac, said it helps on air flow and keep it less warm.

4 LAN port (1st can be use as secondary Wan port, 4th as HyppTV port) , Wan port, Power port and a on/off button.

On the left side. As for the features, the router comes with a lots which some of them i don’t understand, the common are Beamforrming, Dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz signal auto selection, QuickConnect, DDNS, Mobile App control, Traffic control for every single device and more. Check it out here: Synology RT1900ac official site

Front with LED lights, these lights can be turn off by mobile app or time scheduled when to light up by web based user interface.

Eject button for USB device, such as pen drive or external hard drive.

USB 3.0 port and a SD Card slot.

Two stand can be unscrew if you want to, but i just kept it there as i scare to lose it. The slots at middle are for optional stand.

Have been used it for 4 days, although there are some issues on the start but every thing was on track and internet / Wi-Fi connection perform stable now. The extremely well design interface really helps since i am no tech savvy and lack of knowledge on networking. The interface is so friendly that encourage you to explore and test out features it offered, problem is not hard to solve because convenient and backward ability of the interface. Tech support from Synology is always fast as usual as i mailed them about QuickConnect problem. Overall, i have no complain on Synology RT1900ac router and hopefully it will serve me well in coming years.

Issues that i faced are mostly caused by Unifi and NAS previous settings, detailed can be read here: Synology Setting: RT1900ac Router and DS115j
